What happens on their first visit?

As recommended by the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, they encourage a dental visit by age one. They believe these early visits will help instill healthy lifelong oral hygiene habits. At your first visit, you can expect a comprehensive dental examination, including evaluation of the teeth and gum tissue, age-appropriate and necessary radiographs, a thorough dental cleaning of the teeth and gum tissues, a topical fluoride treatment, education on proper oral care at home, dietary counseling and recommendations, and of course all of your questions answered. 

Preventative Care

They offer preventive care visits scheduled twice a year, including oral examinations, cleaning, fluoride treatments, and x-rays. Additionally, they provide sealants. In short, sealants are a thin protective coating applied to the deep grooves of teeth to help prevent decay. And they offer fluoride treatments, a natural mineral that will bind to the tooth and make it more resistant to decay. They also provide extractions that remove a tooth that is no longer viable and restorative procedures that rebuild the tooth’s functionality. If your little one has a hard time relaxing at the dentist or is undergoing a significant procedure, they also offer sedation dentistry. Southern Smiles Pediatric Dentistry provides individualized dental care for patients with autism, Down syndrome, cerebral palsy, childhood cancer, and other genetic/medical disorders.
