If you are looking for one of the best doulas in the Augusta area, check out below! I had the opportunity to have a conversation with Julia Davidson from Little Hands and Little Feet Doula Services to find more about her practice and what moms-to-be can expect! We covered many frequently asked questions so check them out below.
I became a doula and started Little Hands and Little Feet Doula after the birth of my second son. My first son was born overseas and I felt generally lost in the process. With the birth of my second, we hired a doula and felt so much support and care. I learned the valuable lesson that birth did not have to be scary.
After this experience (and with a background in social work/love of working with people) I dove into birth work, researching everything and taking as many trainings as I could. Ultimately, I want families to know they have options, understand those options, and then be supported through all of pregnancy, birth, and postpartum.
I have owned and operated Little Hands and Little Feet Doula for the past 6 years. I started doula work in Minnesota, moved to Atlanta and am now in Augusta! Over the past 6 years I have attended close to 200 births ranging from home, to hospital, to birth center births. Low-risk, high-risk, VBAC, planned cesareans and water births are just a few of the many births I have supported. My training and certification were both done through DONA International as a birth doula. I have also completed the Gilligan’s guide training which focuses on fetal positioning in birth. I am a childbirth educator, trained through Lamaze, and teach both private and group classes.
I am a solo practice, however, I work with a few other local doulas for back-up! I offer one free consultation for you to get to know me and decide if I might be a good fit for your birth. If you decide to move forward in the process I offer two prenatal visits, on-call support, labor support, and one postpartum visit. I am able to assist in initial breastfeeding support as well.
During our prenatal visits, I assist you in making a birth plan and helping you think through your options. I also walk through hands-on comfort measures that you may utilize during labor.
Pregnancy and birth should have a team approach! My other goal is to connect you with others in the community (chiropractors, birth photographers, the right provider, lactation support, physical therapists, etc) to help you along your journey.
Doulas never replace someone you have, instead, we come along to support you and your team.
A few benefits of working with myself at Little Hands and Little Feet Doula are the following:
My philosophy is that women and families should have support through labor and postpartum. I don’t believe in a type of birth that fits every family. My goal is to provide families with evidence-based information to guide their process. I want my clients to know why they are choosing something and then be supported in that choice.
People start working with me by filling out a contact form on my website! From there we set up a free consultation and talk about your hopes/desires for birth. Ideally, contacting a doula anytime after 12 weeks is great! We fill up fast, but always reach out, we can still squeeze people in the end of pregnancy or find someone for you!
I love birth work. It’s a joy and a passion. I am constantly learning with my clients. I am currently taking doula clients, teaching childbirth education, and in school for midwifery. I look forward to serving more families in the CSRA.
