Model of Care & Team

Atlanta Birth Center is focused on providing family centered, equitable and holistic care for each childbirth experience. Every birth is focused on the mom, not just a medical process like the hospital.

Before you are even pregnant, you can see Atlanta Birth Center for your primary care and well-woman visits. Once you are pregnant and start working with their midwifery team, they will be by your side from first visit through postpartum.

If you are looking for individualized care and shared decision making, Atlanta Birth Center is for you. Each mom will receive personalized, family-centered care. Their team is made up of highly qualified holistic health care providers to support and guide you on your pregnancy journey.

As a 501c3, they are a nonprofit organization that provides a natural birthing experience for almost 500 families a year.  

Composed of 16 midwives, 10 nurses, one OBGYN and a handful of administrative staff, Atlanta Birth Center is made up of highly-trained and specialized staff.

Childbirth Services

At the Atlanta Birth Center, they focus on a safe environment to leave a lasting positive impression for your new sweet baby. They focus on keeping the client informed, confident and apart of all decisions before, during and after birth.

Their prenatal model of care starts with your initial appointment that will include a physical as well as a full detailed discussion of your health history. After your initial appointment, you will visit with them regularly throughout your pregnancy. They will perform all standard testing, bloodwork and ultrasounds like a normal OBGYN. The entire time of your pregnancy, you will have 24-hour access to care and support.

When it is time for birth, you will be assisted with a CNM and RN birth assistant. Your birth will take place in one of their comfortable birthing suites. Within the suite, you will have free movement and positions during labor. You will also be given the options for hydrotherapy in the tub or a water birth. Delayed cord clamping as well as immediate skin-to-skin is big focus after birth.  During your birth, you won’t have some of the normal you would at the hospital – such as, routine episiotomies, iv’s, continuous fetal monitoring or separating of baby.  While you are in your birthing suite, you have the option to have your children, family and friends with you. They can be with you while you labor or just after baby has been born.

They also offers postpartum care support. One of their registered nurses will visit you within the first 48 hours after birth. They also have a team that will come by your room to assist with postpartum care for mom and baby as well as lactation support.

Midwifery

In addition to birth, Atlanta Birth Center offers holistic women’s health from puberty through post-menopausal. Just a few of their offerings are family planning, pre-conception, fertility counseling and annual pap smears and exams

Women’s Support Groups

If you expecting a new little baby or recently had a baby, you can be a part of anyone of their three motherhood groups. Motherwise Support Group, Pregnant & Present and Mocha Mamas Support group are all offered through the Atlanta Birth Center. All three groups are open to all expecting and new moms – not just those who had their birth there.  Make sure to check out their website for all of their upcoming birth classes and events.
