The Latch RN

Emily Middleton is the face behind The Latch RN. As a registered nurse, postpartum doula and lactation consultant, she offers prenatal education, lactation consulting as well as newborn night care for families in and around Columbia, South Carolina.

To start services with The Latch RN, you will schedule a prenatal lactation consultation with breastfeeding basics. This will be a private appointment that will go over assessment of mom, baby, the latch, weighted feeds, tips for increased supposed, how to use a pump, how to deal with pain and many other needs. This appointment will be customized based on your concerns and areas of struggle. After our initial consultation, you can schedule follow up consultations. After your follow up, you can schedule additional coaching as needed.

The Latch RN offers prenatal classes for you to prepare for your new baby from lactation prep to support through pregnancy.

Another offering of The Latch RN is Newborn night care. While you sleep, their registered nurses and certified doulas will watch over your precious little baby. From 9pm to 5am your baby will be cared for by a registered nurse who is licensed, certified in infant CPR, holds professional liability insurance as well as extensive experience with newborns. A 10-shift minimum is required when you book The Latch RN for night care service. Most families do a minimum of two nights a week for the first 8-12 weeks. If you are exclusively breastfeeding your little one, the provider will bring baby to you to nurse and then take baby back into the other room after completed. If you would prefer, the nurse will also help you set up a pumping schedule to maintain milk supply during those overnight visits.

The Latch RN is in-network with Aetna insurance as well as partners with The Lactation Network which helps moms get access to their insurance benefits. The Latch RN services all moms in a 15 miles radius of West Columbia, SC for in-home visits. If you are outside of the 15-mile radius, you can visit her in her office.
