All about Lactation Consultants of Atlanta

Focused on breastfeeding and preventative health care, an Internationally Board Certified Lactation Consultants (IBCLC) is a member of health care who is focused on helping parents prenatally and postnatally. In order to obtain their IBCLC certification, they have a rigorous exam as well as complete all hands-on skills.

Lactation Services

When you set up an appointment, you will meet with an IBCLC professional. This meeting can be in their office or in your home. During this appointment, you will discuss your history, they will observe you feed your baby and discuss what findings they find that may improve any issues.

Your lactation consultant is there to support you. Weighted feeds, assessment of latch, oral assessment for lip/tongue tie and helping with position are just a few of the many items them will look at during your visit.

To prepare for your visit, I recommend making a list of any questions you have so you can best utilize your time together.

With Lactation Consultants of Atlanta, you have the option to have them come to you in your home. For many moms, this is their preferred visit because they don’t have to stress about bringing baby out. In-home this also helps because you are more comfortable. Your lactation consultant can assess you in your own chair/bed or wherever you normally feed your baby.

Insurance coverage

Many of the lactation services offered are covered by insurance. At this time, they are in network with Aetna, Humana, BCBS, Cigna and a few other providers. Reach out to your insurance company to see what lactation coverage is included with your plan.

Even if you don’t have insurance coverage, you can still be seen at Lactation Consultants of Atlanta. They have very reasonable rates that can be used as a part of their GAP exception of your insurance.  Before applying for a GAP exception, they ask that you reach out to your insurance to see what coverage you have.

Breast Pump Rentals

Whether you have a little that cannot nurse or are headed back to work, Lactation Consultants of Atlanta has breast pumps that you can rent. They have hospital grade pumps such as the Ameda Platinum and Hygeia EnDeare. These can be rented for two weeks or by the month. In addition to pumps, they also carry pump parts for sale.

Events

Every third Monday of the month, Lactation Consultants of Atlanta has a breast-feeding support group called Milky Monday. Registration is free so make sure to  attend the next group to make some new mom friends.
